Overview

Japan is thrown into a panic after several ships are sunk near Odo Island. An expedition to the island led by Dr. Kyohei Yamane soon discover something far more devastating than imagined in the form of a 50 meter tall monster whom the natives call Gojira. Now the monster begins a rampage that threatens to destroy not only Japan, but the rest of the world as well.

Happy birthday, Gojira! 67 years young today! First time viewing this on his birthday. Before this I watched two episodes of Zone Fighter that feature Godzilla joining the fray to help out. Super fun stuff.

This movie is nearly a dark comedy (something SHIN GODZILLA embraced). I still crack up when Emiko freaks out (twice!) when Serizawa kills the fish. I mean, they’re fish. LOL

Also so amusing that Ogata plans to get permission from her father (Shimura) to marry her but instead gets into an argument and her father kicks him out. Great moment. I like that her father doesn’t want to kill Godzilla bc it’s a once in a lifetime to study this creature then on the next attack when Godzilla destroys half of Tokyo there’s the shot of him just standing there like, “um maybe we should kill this monster?”

The drama is so good. Like when Serizawa realizes that he can’t get Emiko’s affection he decides fuck it I’m just gonna go kill godzilla and myself. Bye!
