Viewing Notes

Thought this would be a fun one to revisit now given the quarantine situation and all. This is still a banger. Every time I watch it I regret not seeing it on the big screen then wonder why this doesn’t get any rep screenings. It’s certainly deserving and one of the better video game adaptations. Plus that hallway laser slicing sequence is an all-timer. Milla Jovovich is really great, too. It was cool to see her and Michelle Rodriguez in the making of featurette discussing their love for the film and property. It’s crazy to me that was made 19 years ago.

One other thing that was neat to see in the featurette is all the practical FX they created for this including those monsters. Had this movie been today all of that would’ve been done via CGI. Probably the dogs too.

This Blu does not look so good. Not terrible and certainly better than the dvd but yeah not so crisp with the black levels washed out. I switched my picture mode to cinematic which improved the P/Q a lot yet also made it darker but it least the blacks appeared black.
