Viewing Notes

At York Classic Cinemas in the XQ theater by myself! Big thanks to Mike S for the tip!

So there was one other person who sat in the first row of the stadium seating five rows in front of me. But it might as well have been a private viewing and it was glorious. That XQ laser projection is very nice and this particular theater is very nice with big recliner seats. Guess all that is new since I was last there 2 years ago.

It was really cool to see this movie on the big screen again. Only saw it once in theater when it opened 15yrs ago then maybe one or two other times when it hit home video but haven’t seen since I started logging films on the regular in 2009. So it had been a while and I had forgotten certain sequences in addition to how neat it is to see Chicago rendered in this film. The Board of Trade is Wayne Tower and my last office space.

Michael Caine really is the anchor of this story and so good. I also love all the horror imagery between the bats and Scarecrow’s hallucinations (that black drippy Batman is wicked). How the fighting combat is filmed is still a hangup and Bale’s Batman is goofy at times but I really enjoy this movie. I’m very happy Classic Cinemas is showing films like this to fill the void until new movies return. Next week I think The Dark Knight will be there in XQ, according to Mike, then DK Rises after that. For six bucks a ticket this is an ideal situation and I don’t have to worry about crowds.

Oh damn, a movie in a theater! Glad there was almost no one there!

Yeah I wouldn’t attend these screenings if there was a decent amount of ppl there. The Classic Cinemas chain re-opened on Friday in the Chicago area so I saw CLUE before I learned about the XQ screenings at another theater. As of now this is the only regional chain that’s open b/c of Phase 4. Music Box re-opens Friday, July 3, with 2001 in 70mm but there’s no way I’m going there.

Honestly I can’t imagine Classic Cinemas can be generating any positive revenue with one or two tickets sold per screening. But it’s ideal for me for the time being and cheap!
