Viewing Notes

Wow was that disappointing. I understand the focus on ineffective government and bloated bureaucracy but it felt like an hour and a half of talking heads with a mostly immobile Godzilla in the background. Also the first stage creature is goofy as shit.

To top it off, the audio kept dropping out when played through the PS3. I switched it over to the DVD player and it kept skipping and freezing near the beginning and just before the end credits. Not a good experience.

On the plus side, I did like the Godzilla creature and its slow plodding reign of destruction felt more akin to the original Godzilla film. If it had focused a little more on that, and especially on the effects on the Japanese people, it would have had a stronger impact. As it was, I never really felt engaged or particularly empathetic for anyone.

I’ll have to rewatch it at some point to see if my reaction is any different.

I know, right? Was really excited to see it and expecting to like it. I think the disc issues put me in a bad mood.
